Before you book

Frequently asked questions

Below are the questions we are asked most often before someone books us — over de bezetting, het geluid, de ruimte en het geld. Staat jouw vraag er niet bij? Bel of mail gerust; we bijten niet.

How many musicians come along?

Normally there are five of us on stage: vocals, guitar, flute, fiddle, bodhrán and box. If the room is small or the budget tight, we can also come as a duo or trio. The atmosphere stays the same; only the volume changes.

How long do you play?

Usually three sets of 35 minutes with breaks in between — well over an hour and a half of music, spread across an evening. Shorter or longer is possible too; tell us beforehand what you have in mind and we will shape the evening around it.

What does it cost?

A duo starts at € 550, the full band at € 1,250. Travel and VAT are usually included. What it comes to for your evening depends on the line-up, the playing time and the distance. We agree one total price in advance, and nothing is added afterwards.

Do we have to arrange sound?

No, you don't. We bring our own PA and prefer to play through it: we know it, and we tune it to the room — from a small pub to a festival tent. If there is professional sound with someone behind the desk, we are glad to use it.

How much space do you need?

About four by three metres is enough for the full band. A duo fits into any corner. We need power (two ordinary sockets will do) and preferably a spot that is not on the route to the bar. A stage is much appreciated: 2.44 by 2.44 metres is exactly right — two standard stage decks side by side. It is not essential, but it helps: on a stage the people at the back can see the band too.

What do you need from the organiser?

Little, and nothing unusual. Power, a place to stand, and preferably a corner where we can leave our coats and cases and change — it need not be a real dressing room, a quiet space out back will do. And if we play or travel over dinner time, a good hot meal is very much appreciated. With five of us and a few hours' driving, that is the difference between an evening of work and an evening we look back on with pleasure.

Can you play acoustically?

We can. But experience has taught us that it is better to start lightly amplified and leave the PA quiet if it turns out not to be needed — the other way round does not work, because setting up microphones halfway through breaks the evening. With our small mobile battery-powered PA we can be heard anywhere, outdoors as well, and without a socket nearby.

How far do you travel?

We play throughout the Netherlands and also in Belgium and Germany. Travel costs are agreed in advance; usually they are part of the total price, so no separate bill arrives afterwards. We always come to an agreement about travel and suchlike — no booking has ever fallen through over it.

Can we request songs ourselves?

Gladly. There is a song that lands differently at every wedding, and a song your father always sang along to — let us know beforehand and we will put it on the list. Our repertoire is on the site; if you miss something, just ask.

Do you also give a dance workshop?

Yes, a ceili: a short, cheerful dance lesson in which the audience joins in. Within ten minutes the room is standing in a circle and everyone has danced with everyone. At company parties and clubs in particular, that is the moment the evening turns.

How far in advance should we book?

For an ordinary Saturday a few months is plenty. For St. Patrick's Day we are often full by January, and the December weekends fill up early as well. When in doubt, simply ask and you will know straight away.

Do you play during the day or outdoors?

Yes, at markets, festivals and village fairs we regularly play in daylight and in the open air. We do need a covered spot then — instruments and rain do not go together.

How do we confirm the booking?

You ask about availability through the form or by e-mail. We let you know whether the date is free and what it costs. If you agree, we send a confirmation with all the arrangements in it: times, line-up, amount. We do not ask for a deposit.

Anything else?

Tell us below what you have in mind and we will quickly let you know whether it is possible and what it costs. Rather have a quick chat? That is fine too: +31 6 53 71 62 49 .
