Useful links about Irish folk — bands, tunes, instruments and culture.
This page is a collection of places we frequent ourselves: bands we admire, collections of sheet music and tunes, websites about instruments, and people from the Dutch folk scene with whom we collaborate. It has been hand-compiled by The Doggy Few in Groningen, and is steadily growing.
Irish music is rarely learned from a book. It is passed on in sessions, in pubs and at festivals, from player to player. Anyone starting out withbodhrán, Irish flute, tin whistle, fiddle of melodeon, will therefore sooner or later come across the same sources: collections ofjigs en reels, lyrics of the ballads, and recordings of the bands that have kept the tradition alive — from The Dubliners and Planxty to The Bothy Band.
